The evening begins with a Mass and continues with a formal dinner reception. Tuxedos and floor-length gowns are requested. A dark suit and tie is an acceptable alternative.
For Her
Floor-length evening gowns. The palette above is offered as a suggestion, not a requirement. Please reserve white, ivory, and champagne for the bride.
For Him
A tuxedo is preferred. Otherwise, a dark suit in navy or charcoal, worn with a tie. Lightweight and tropical-weight fabrics are recommended for the evening warmth.
Footwear
The walled city is paved in cobblestone. Block heels or wedges are recommended over stilettos.
Weather
Mid-December in Cartagena averages 88°F by day and 78°F in the evening, with a steady sea breeze. December marks the start of the dry season, and rain is unlikely.
Catholic Ceremony Note
Out of respect for the church, shoulders should be covered during the Mass. A light wrap or shawl is recommended.
When in Doubt
Err toward formal. The ceremony is an evening Mass within the walled city, followed by a candlelit reception in a seventeenth-century convent.
